HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. (February 2, 2022) – Three area businesses are uniting for a good cause with Ski Today For a Better Tomorrow happening at The Highlands at Harbor Springs on Sunday, February 13. 

For just $15, skiers and snowboarders can gain all-day access to the slopes and support the event with all proceeds from sales benefiting the Little Traverse Conservancy and Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council.  Additional discounts are offered on equipment rentals, dining, ziplining, Sno-Go bikes, and horseback trail rides. 

The event is an evolution of The Highlands’ former Community Appreciation Day, which offered a day of free skiing and snowboarding to the local community as a way to say thank you and give back.

The Highlands’ Director of Sustainability, Mari Kissinger, saw the event as an opportunity to expand the giving back even further to make a difference in the local area.

“Sustainability has always been important to The Highlands,” said Kissinger.  “We have been passionate about energy efficiency in our snowmaking, our golf course operations, and throughout our lodges.  We are proud to offset our electrical consumption 100% through the purchase of renewable energy credits, and are engaged with waste reduction, recycling and composting throughout the resort.  In collaboration with Boyne Resorts’ ForeverProject, we are also working towards achieving a net zero carbon footprint by 2030.”

“With Ski Today for a Better Tomorrow, we wanted to expand on our sustainability efforts and outreach by bringing the community together in support of these two admirable organizations working to establish a better tomorrow within the region,” she added.

Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council Interim Executive Director, Jennifer Buchanan, said they are excited to join the Ski Today for a Better Tomorrow conservation campaign.

“As an environmental organization in northern Michigan, we know that appreciating our beautiful resources while also protecting them is of the upmost importance,” said Buchanan.
